Sensitive to light?  Try Transition Lenses

If you've ever wished your glasses could automatically adapt to changing light conditions, Transition lenses (also known as photochromic lenses) might be the perfect solution. At Eyesight Optometrist we're passionate about offering eyewear that not only looks good but also supports your lifestyle. Here’s what you need to know about this innovative lens technology.

What Are Transitions® Lenses?

Transition lenses are optical lenses that darken automatically when exposed to sunlight (UV light) and return to clear when indoors. Designed for daily wear, they provide both vision correction and UV protection—without the need to swap between regular glasses and sunglasses.

Would Transitions® suit my lifestyle?

Think about what you are doing on a daily basis. Are you constantly swapping glasses or can't find your sunglasses when you need them? Is the glare bothering you while hanging washing out, in the garden, walking the dog, or working outside on the tools? Transitions® are a great option to fit in between a clear pair and a sunglass. These adaptive lenses automatically adjust to changing light conditions, darkening when you step outdoors and returning to clear indoors. That means no more juggling between pairs or squinting in the sun. Whether you're on the go, enjoying time outdoors, or simply managing everyday tasks, Transitions® lenses provide the comfort, protection, and convenience that seamlessly suits your lifestyle.

UV Protection

They block 100% of UVA and UVB rays, helping to protect your eyes from sun damage, cataracts, and long-term vision issues.

Convenience

No need to carry both glasses and sunglasses. Transitions® lenses adapt instantly to wherever you are.

Comfort

Automatically adjusting brightness reduces glare and squinting, which can help prevent eye fatigue, especially in variable lighting conditions.

How Do Transitions® Lenses Work?

Transition lenses contain special molecules that react to ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun. When UV exposure increases (like when you step outdoors), these molecules change shape, causing the lens to darken. When UV light is no longer present (indoors or at night), the molecules revert back, and the lenses become clear again.

Modern advancements allow these lenses to react faster, become darker, and fade back more quickly than ever before—making them more convenient and comfortable for everyday use.

Colours Available

Gone are the days of basic grey-only options. Transition lenses now come in a range of colours to match your style and preferences, including:

Grey: Neutral tint, excellent for bright sun and true colour perception.

Brown: Enhances contrast and depth perception—great for outdoor activities.

Graphite Green: A modern alternative that offers natural colour and relaxed vision.

Sapphire Blue, Amber, Emerald Green, Amethyst: Fashion tints for a custom look (available in select lens brands like Transitions® Signature GEN 8).

Ask us about the options when choosing your next pair of glasses—some tints are available for both prescription and non-prescription wearers.
